Google's Bard: A Slightly Slower, Yet Impressive ChatGPT Competitor
Earlier this month, Google announced the release of Gemini, a powerful AI model that it integrated into its chatbot, Bard, in order to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Bard and ChatGPT are similar chatbots based on large language models. Bard is free to use, while ChatGPT Plus costs $20 per month. Bard does not have the multimodal capabilities of ChatGPT Plus, but it offers a feature to check other draft answers. During testing, Bard was found to be slower than ChatGPT. Both chatbots have limitations on the types of answers they can give to ensure safety policies are not violated. In a test of various prompts, ChatGPT and Bard provided mixed results in terms of accuracy and depth of information. ChatGPT was able to generate a photorealistic image, while Bard currently lacks this capability. In terms of answering questions, both chatbots had their strengths and weaknesses. Overall, Bard is capable of competing with ChatGPT Plus, especially considering its price point of being free.
