OpenAI exploring opportunities to secure new funding with proposed $100 billion valuation
OpenAI is reportedly exploring opportunities to secure new funding with a proposed valuation of $100 billion or higher. The terms and timing of the funding round have not been finalized yet and may still change. Additionally, OpenAI has been discussing funding options for a new chip venture with Abu Dhabi-based G42. It is unclear if the chip venture and the wider company funding are related. OpenAI has also initiated a separate tender offer led by Thrive Capital, allowing employees to sell shares at an $86 billion valuation in early January. Microsoft has previously committed to investing over $10 billion in OpenAI. OpenAI’s generative AI tool, ChatGPT, has played a significant role in boosting its popularity and contributing to its increased valuation. The company previously conducted a $300 million share sale at a valuation of $30 billion. In late November, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was temporarily ousted, but was reinstated a few days later with the promise of a new board.
