OpenAI Secures Massive US$100 Billion Funding Round

OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, is reportedly in discussions to raise a funding round at a valuation of $100 billion or more. This would solidify the company’s position as one of the world’s most valuable startups. Although the details of the funding round, such as terms, valuation, and timing, have not been finalized, it could potentially make OpenAI the second-most valuable startup in the US, behind SpaceX. OpenAI is also planning to complete a separate tender offer in January, allowing employees to sell their shares at a valuation of $86 billion. This offer is being led by Thrive Capital and has seen high demand from investors. Since the release of ChatGPT, OpenAI’s valuation has skyrocketed, attracting $13 billion in funding from Microsoft. Other companies, including Amazon and Alphabet, have also invested heavily in OpenAI’s competitors. Salesforce Inc and Nvidia Corp have made significant investments in related AI ventures as well.
